Re: Will this DE-value my Longhorn????

I bet not only would it not lower the value, it would likely increase the value, but only if it's done right. Use all new parts.
I see no problem at all with the 200 r4 trans, in my mind it's worth more with the OD trans because it takes a dent out of the 4:10 rear gears. Gas is $3 a gallon. I've been thinking of a similar trans change in my longhorn.
I really don't care for power windows though, but I am in a minority opinion there.

Re: Will this DE-value my Longhorn????

Do it.

I had power locks on my nova wagon unitl right before I sold it. Took me a week of planning and a full day to custom install. Only took two hours to take back off. The system is waiting to go in my pickup.

Power windows can be a lot more work, and would be a lot more difficult to remove, but would provide a great deal of convenience.

You'll not regret that you have these items on your truck.

Re: Will this DE-value my Longhorn????

Wow! Thanks for all the replies.

I'll try to respond to some of the questions asked (without adding the quotes)

Truck history .... just talked to the guy who restored it back in '98 or so ....he believes the truck was owned by a draft dodger who came up to Canada. The truck had some sort of hand made camper with carpet clued to the box (oak) floor which basically rotted and rusted the box. A replacement box was found in the prairies.

Location .... I'm in Chilliwack. 20 minutes north of Washington State (for you Americans )

Future plans .... I WILL have the body (re: paint) re-done (improved??). The clear coat is failing so a new job is required. I will also have white painted between the side moldings. If anything else is done it will be bolt-on ...no mig or tig on this baby!

adanac .....good catch on Canada spelled backwards

I have caught the 67-72 Chey bug!!!! I now have my son looking for one!

Thanks to all!

Re: Will this DE-value my Longhorn????

Hmmmm... off the top of my head;
Wrong hub caps...those are 73 & up caps
Longhorn badges in wrong locations... that was only on 68 trucks, should ber in front of the markers on 69 - 72
Side marker lights are for the cheyenne/CST style instead of the plain ones like it should have.
I *think* the mirrors are wrong... but I may be wrong.

Interestingly enough, it looks like you still have the old 16.5 inch wheels. You should price them and then price the 16 inch tires. 16 inch steel wheels can be found cheap in the junk yard and save you money next time you need rubber.

Like I said, nothing important. I'm sure it is a fairly original truck, and regardles of how original/correct it is... it's a kick ass truck, and WAY nicer than mine.

How will you put power windows in without butchering the original door panels? To me,if a vehicle has p/w,then fine. But,I have no problem cranking windows or leaning over to do the passenger side.At some point these are still just cool old trucks that should be appreciated for what they are,not what they lack.

The door panels will be cut to accomodate the switches. If I ever have to set the truck 'back' to it orgiginal state I'll just get new panels! That's a cheap 'un-do'

I have just purchased a '71 Chevy C20 Longhorn that has been basically restored. It has the 350 with a 200R4 (yes ....200R4) with shift kit. The truck has 87K miles on it.

Other than the tranny being changed the only other change was puting the gas tank under the box.

Soooooo, here's is my question .....

Will I de-value the truck if I put power windows & door locks on it? The main reason why I ask is because the truck is so close to being stock (aside from the tranny & Gas tank). Is a 'true' stock Longhorn worth more 'un-modified'?

Thank in advance!

Tom
