why the second to the rear cross brace on these frames are all crooked? Am I the only one that it drives totally crazy? I think it must be time for me to finally get the box back on my truck...

I have always wondered that as well. It is the same on 66 earlier, and I used it as a source to play a joke on my buddy with his 63 GMC, telling him to look at the crossmember, "Dude, look, it is not straight anymore, this thing got hit hard at one time and your frame is junk!" He was quiet for about half-hour before he figured out that I was joking...

The same crosseyed guy put that brace in every truck down the line!

Honestly, I think it has to do with push/pull on the rear of the frame from the track bar, & the angle on the crossmember helps to stiffen the frame in that area? Just a guess tho.....

I can see where an angled brace could help with cross flex but that brace isnt really at that much of an angle. I sure looks bad with a box off though. Glad Im not the only one that it bothers. Thanks guys...

I cut mine off. I figured if it's crooked it must not do anything, so I cut it off and threw it away!

Anyone have a good picture of the rear section of the frame, an overhead shot would be best, and that would help everyone see what we are talking about.

I can get an overhead picture of my frame but mine is straight! My truck has rear leafs though you think that might have something to do with why mine is straight?

Well I be damned, I am almost positive mine is straight, I think I would have noticed it being that crooked, but that is a leaf truck also. What is the hole for just a little in front of the cross member? Seems if it were mounted in that hole it would be straight!

I was thinkin about that too but the way it is attached to the left side framerail with several rivets, it won't be possible to swivel it to fit to the front hole.

From an engineering perspective, that would be to keep the two long frame rails from being able to move parallel to each other. The frame assembly is much stiffer with that one cross brace on an angle than it would be with all of them perpendicular to the long rails.

Will it hurt anything if mine goes to the scrap pile? Mine is leaf sprung as well. It sure would make installing 3" tailpipes easier too...

My guess is that it wont hurt if the crossmember is "missing in action" on a leaf spring truck(just a guess tho

) . My longhorn does not have the crossmember that you guys show on the other 2wd trucks......nothing has fallen off the old beyoch, so its probably not needed
