m22 muncie just took a dump
Just went up the on ramp to get on the highway and decided to rip through the gears a little for a change, shifting at 4k or so. As soon as it went into 3rd gear and I let the clutch out I got a horrible knocking noise. Now it knocks real bad in 1,2,4 but 3rd sounds like its about to blow up. Guess it's time for a rebuild. I'm hoping all the gears are ok, but I'm guessing probably not. The tranny was rebuilt by the previous owner less than 15k miles ago so I'm shocked it only lasted that long, especially since I usually drive like a grandma. Anybody have any suggestions what I should do? I'm on a very tight budget (less than $1k). I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but I've never rebuilt a tranny before. Is rebuilding an m22 very tough or should I let a shop do it? Any suggestions on where to get a rebuild kit?....maybe gears too? Any guesstimates on what a shop would charge me to rebuild the thing if I pull it and bring it to them? Thanks for any help guys!
