700R4 swap
What would be involved in swapping a '85 700R4 into my ’72 2wd blazer. Would I need a new crossmember? Would I need to add a throttle switch? Driveline? Is the '85 700R4 computer controled.

The 700R is 3 inches longer. You can still use your trans x-member, just move it back and drill holes. The drive shaft will have to be shortened. You will also want to get the converter lockup kit. You will also need a TV cable and carb linkage for the TV cable. The 85 is not computer controlled. I think it wasn't until the 90's that the computer control ones came out.

My tranny crossmember has a set of holes drilled in it. Maybe its had one in there before. What does TV stand for, I've never had anything but, a TH350 until I bought this thing.

TV cable = Throttle Valve Cable
Quite different from a kickdown cable. A th350 will operate just fine without the kickdown hooked up. A 700r4 will not operate at all or poorly without the TV cable properly set. |

The TV cable tells it to go into overdrive, but it does way more than that.
If it isn't dead on, then it'll put the tranny into self destruct mode, and will become a very expensive piece of yard art. |

And I believe that the '87 and later is the 700 that you want to go with. Because by that time all the upgrades that the improved earlier models were incorporated.
