wisdom from the stupid

Never do suspension work on a angled surface.

I have a saggy butt so I decide to put another 1/2" in the rear. My driveway is fairly steep but i figured the driveline would keep the rear end in place while i replace the rear blocks. oh, and i have no ring gear in the front so i cant even lock the hubs to hold the truck in place. I was a little nervous a few times yesturday. Things werent real stable. I used a cherry picker to lift the truck cause my floor jacks wouldn't go high enough. Should have been a 1 hour job.

Guess not. I got the rear end unbolted from the springs, and the u-joint spun and the entire rear end rolled about 3" down the driveway. Needless to say i was very persistant and i got it all back together but i will not do that again.

OMG,, your scaring me. My father lost a friend when his hot rod fell on him. He was working under it and it wasn't properly secured with jackstands. Don't do that again. Find a level spot and get some jack stands that work with your truck.

I agree...being dead pretty much sucks! And getting seriously hurt would also suck...although not as much. I'm wearing safety glasses whenever I work on my truck. And really watching how I do things.

Re: wisdom from the stupid

everyone has heard of people being killed by falling cars/trucks due to lack of preventive measures. If you do not
have the right jacks and and jackstands, then don't work on the truck until you do. Spending $100 bucks to prevent severe injury or death is nothing. Even with jackstands, I'm paranoid and check everthing twice to ensure placement is good. I try to imagine that if something gave, would i be protected.

Would not want to see you hurt...thats all

You don`t want a vehicle to fall on you and kill you while you`re working on it.It will be harder to sell with the job 1/2 done,j/k.Seriously,everyone please take care when lifting vehicles.

Re: wisdom from the stupid

ok guys. I'm not quite as stupid as it looks like. The front tires are blocked with trailer blocks. There pretty good little wedges. If you look right above the car domain lettering you can see some yellow in front of the wheels. they are blocked.

Glad it all worked out for ya.
We're not willing to give up any good standing blazer owners right now, so don't do it again...OKAY?

Would blocking the rear wheels have helped out any?

Re: wisdom from the stupid

The vehicle didn`t move, guys, just the free axle.Next time, try jacking the vehicle, lower frame onto jack stands with axle drooping, jack up axle, stands under it while you un-bolt(takes load off hardware. If you don`t have second pair of stands, the jack`ll do or blocks),jack axle off of stands, remove stands, let axle droop free. When going back together, lift the axle to the vehicle. Also, leave the driveshaft/u-joints bolted up.

Re: wisdom from the stupid

no one has called you stupid or dumb, just helping out with some thoughts on safety. If you had it nicely secured and safe, then its all good. If there was room for improvement, then some other truck owners are the ones to here it from

no point in a finished picture. I think my rear springs are worn out, cause you cant even tell i put anymore lift in it. I'm pricing some 2 1/2" superlift rear springs today. If i run them with my 4" blocks it should level things out. I'm still conteplating the shackle lift but even if i do that it wont fix my saggy rear springs so i thing I'll just go with new springs with a little arch.

I hate a saggy butt

Plus - when you add your louvered hood - that will make your front end even lighter - thereby raising the front even more!
