Need Tail gate for 67 Fleetside
I just bought a 67 and the only bad part of the truck is the tailgate. Can someone help?

Re: Need Tail gate for 67 Fleetside
Since JRB said he needed a`67 gate, that one prolly wouldn`t do since 67/68 didn`t have the bands and he`d have some screw holes to fill.

Re: Need Tail gate for 67 Fleetside
JRB, since you will most likely need to repaint any tailgate you get, it's not that much to do the bodywork (ie: fill the holes from the moldings). I pulled a gate from a 71 and had that done for my '67. Total bodywork and paint was $200.00 so $150 for that gate seems very reasonable IMO. Just an option for you. It's not going to be easy to find a good gate from a 67/68 that you won't have to do bodywork to anyways.

Re: Need Tail gate for 67 Fleetside
I agree with you 67 Fleet but I think the shipping on the tail gate will be kind of costly. I need to get into my books and see what a repop will cost for the truck. Then again I am going to make this truck into a short wide so I may just scrap the whole bed or sell it. I need to do some shopping locally and see what they are going for.
Thanks JRB |

Re: Need Tail gate for 67 Fleetside
Yes its a longbed. When I was looking at the truck it was surrounded with logs and blackberry vines ( Lots of Stickers). The tail gate was down and I didnt see it until the guy I bought it from pulled it out and the tailgate is rusted from one end to the other and up to down. Even a couple of holes in it. The truck only has 46K original miles on it so the rest of it is in great shape.

Re: Need Tail gate for 67 Fleetside
Hey,I wasn`t trying to mess Hurst`s offer up.Just figured since JRB specified`67 and Hurst offered a gate with 69-72 trim I thought it was odd.All 67-72 gates are the same and, yeah, the holes are small and easy to fix. There`s plenty of gates out there w/o trim from all 6 years.Just not the CSTs or Cheyennes.

Re: Need Tail gate for 67 Fleetside
JRB, just my humble opinion, but I speak from experience. Repop tailgates are crap. I've got one leaned up against the side of my house behind the bushes that I can probably sell for scrap and make more money than the piece of sh__ is worth. It's about as thick as a soda can.

Re: Need Tail gate for 67 Fleetside
67 Fleet,
I appreciate your honesty about the Repops. I hate to spend money twice to get what I want. I have a friend that works at a place that people donate there cars to. I have him keeping an eye out for me a tail gate. You would be surprized what cars and trucks they get donated to them. But if I find the right deal on a tailgate I will buy it. I am a novice in bodywork and paint so the less I have to do the better. Thanks, JRB |

Re: Need Tail gate for 67 Fleetside
I agree on the repops being crap. I had one; sat an EMPTY 454 Block on it and it bent. I then bought a whole truck just to get a factory (nice) gate and parted the rest out. Be patient there out there
