Re: How does the knob on glove box come off??
The hole in the front does nothing. Do not pry off the outside knob, it just bends the pot metal tabs on the knob and you still can't get the assembly out. You need to depress spring-loaded tabs on the latch body itself. Open the glove box and look at the small window cut in the housing on the latch. Use a small screwdriver and depress while wiggling on the outside knob and pulling outward. After the inside of the latch comes out you still need a large Allen wrench to unscrew the collar to finally get the whole thing out. It's hard to see the spring-loaded tabs but after you get it out it's pretty simple!

Yes, I have already tried pushing a wire into that darn useless hole in front. What the heck is that hole for anyway. Did nothing like you said. I will try that with the spring. Thanks Mike!

Re: How does the knob on glove box come off??
Mike is right but of all the latches i have taken out I have never needed that LARGE allen wrench. the special nut is usually loose enough that a large flat blade screwdriver loosened it right up if even that was needed.
I think GM made that outer cover for about 100 differnt apllications and i know on some older cars the hole on the outside let you depress the tumblers if you slipped a paper clip down into it. DAVE

Re: How does the knob on glove box come off??
I have pushed and pulled on that spring and still can not get it apart. What am I doing wrong? At the top of the latch I can see the spring and I put a small screwdrive and push down on it and pull but nothing. I am about ready to take a sledge hammer to it. Driving me nuts!
