what primer should I use?

I called my local auto paint store & they asked me what kind of auto primer I wanted because theres 4 different types, Etching, apoxy,2k,& acrylic? What do you guys recommend? Keep in mind, I dont plan on my truck to be show quality,because I have a very tight budget,so the cheaper the better,if there is such a thing. Thanks!

ive always been told the etching bites better but they all have a purpose some for certain metals others for certain paint i have read some good info in the paint and body forums here check them out

Igotachevyor2 is right, on bare metal you always use a good quality sandable etching primer. And when it comes to primer DON'T go cheap! It's the foundation of your paint!

There are a few epoxy primers that can be applied to bare metal such as PPG's DPLF. I suggest a good etching primer w/epoxy on top...it doesn't get any better than that, but it ain't cheap.

Are you going to paint right away? If not, consider DPLF (again because it's a primer/sealer - you can leave it in primer for a LONG time.

I know that the painter I respect the most uses PPG k200 exclusivley.

K200 is a primer/surfacer - doesn't look like it's available to the home user from their automotive refinish web site.
