Best/Most Affordable AirBag Setup

Ok, I'm new to bagging one, so I've only looked on the net. Is there a vendor who I can buy a complete kit from for the front and rear of a '65 short wheel base panel truck? Anyone associated with the board?

Re: Best/Most Affordable AirBag Setup

Having just mostly completed this job (all i got left is the brake lines...did a disc swap same time)...lets see if i can help out...

are you disc'd already ?? dropped spindles ?? happy with current braking setup.

If all you want to do is bag the truck the shopping list is very very short...

- 4 x firestone 2600 lb 224c bags, single 3/8ths port, single 3/8ths threaded boss on the bottom plate.

- set of 73-87 bag plates and cups...mine were $80 cdn for all 4

- go to your local industrial hose headquarters or ability hose or something...
get 4 x 90* 3/8ths to 1/4 hosefittings, your choice...push to connect or swagelock, I prefer swagelock myself, easier to get the system airtight,
4 x 1/4"schraeders..again ptc or swage and about 30 ft of 1/4" airline just to be safe and have lots of extra...its cheap

- if you want to "t" the rear, and only ever do the rear (one schraeder to fill both bags) then pick one up here too, don't "t" the front

- you'll need either red thread locking agent or teflon tape for the swagelocks
- and a fresh razor blade to cut a perfect sqaure/clean airline

The extras that may come in a truck dealers kit would the Early Classic Super track bar, and the shock relocater kit. Other than that its all off the shelf parts.

Now if you want to get into valves and compressors and tanks then you add to that basic system. There are guys who have done this a few more times than i have on this board but if you just want to put bags on an otherwise stock frame i can help you out.

As it sits in the picture below it has 3" dropped spindles, 26" tall tire and bags, and the control arms are on the ground. The back has no notch and the frame iis resting on the axle. I'm going to get a pipe notch done in the back so it'll sit down more when its dumped.

It still has full length headers on it, with it dumped i can't get my fingers underneath the headers....time for shorty's or 3/4's. The blazer tank in the back is also only about 5 inches off the ground.

Re: Best/Most Affordable AirBag Setup

I paid $120 taxes in locally, In Calgary, Canada, so you'll get better prices in the states Somehwere around $90-100. I also got 2 bags through work at "our cost" for $99.99 a bag.

I ordered a viar 400 compressor, 6 3/8ths SMC valves, a 5 gallon tank and two dual needle gauges today for $750 CDN taxes in. I also got a great deal from a custom shop. I kept all receipts the bags were the easy part, the disc swap is tougher, brake lines/booster setup is tough.
