Smoking wheel?
This probably isn't what you were expecting- I am talking about my steering wheel. At about 30-40mph, wisps of smoke come out of the crack where the wheel and column meet. I don't smell anything, and have not seen it before. What is it? BTW, I have manual steering.

There's only 3 things in there. The contact for the horn(does that still work?),the turn signal mechanism(do they work?) and the light to light up the gear selector(does that work?).
I'd pull the wheel and check for chaffed wires.I'd do that kinda soon too. If a power wire is grounded out and stays grounded your looking at an electrical fire(those aren't fun). Good luck!

Going from past experience, I can tell you that it could be wiring trouble anywhere in the truck. I once pinched some brake light wires when I reinstalled my rear bumper. Got into the next town and while sitting at a red light, smoke started coming out of the column. Rather than just blow a fuse, it melted the wires going into the column first!
Did you do any work prior to this happening? If so, check in that area first.

The horn works sometimes when it feels like it or you really hit it hard but it has always done that...I have floor shift, but the turn signals work fine. I replaced the brake light switch a couple days ago, but no wiring is pinched because I checked. I have had this string of problems after I got my floor sandblasted. The guy told me he would seal off the whole dash so I wasn't really worried-well he didn't, and I have sand everywhere, ruined my radio too, and I have sand in my column because I can hear it when I turn the wheel. Do you think the sand might have something to do with the smoke in the column? My dad thinks it might be the sand shorting something out(?) Guess I'll pull the wheel to check it out. Thanks guys
