Anyone have pics of modified rear crossmembers?

I need to severly notch or rebuild my rear crossmember for driveline clearance, what are all you guys doing? I will post pics of what I'm dealing with. Let me know what you guys think or ideas you have.....

ok here are pics of what I'm talking about. The bar that is welded in represents the bottom of the bed floor so it looks like I'll have to come through the bed. What do you guys think I should do?

it,s a lot of work but just lift your bed floor over the notch ?

Flip the crossmember upside-down for drive-shaft clearance & raise the bed-floor for best (cleanest) looks.

but when he lifts up the drive shaft lowers it self i say either raise the bed floor or go with a 2 peice drive shaft like im goin to do

You would still need to c-notch the c-member. It just wouldn't require as much of a notch (unless you love to clown around & drive w/a 4X4 stance) & then it could also serve as a driveshaft hoop.

This is a subject I keep hearing different opinions about. I was told it should be "around" 3 degrees. I was also told the tranny tailshaft and yoke should have the same pitch, meaning my tranny tailshaft is pointed down 3 degress then the rearend yoke should point up 3 degrees if that makes sense?

hey 74chevy74 is your truck bodydropped? I had to notch my cab in the back for the driveshaft.

No the body is not dropped, I Z'ed the front 2.5", sectioned the front xmember 1.5" and cut 2" off the bottom of the frame so it will lay body. I had to do a little reworking to the tranny tunnel but the actual back of my cab was not cut, I'll post up some more detailed pics by the end of the weekend. I would consider it a stock floor body drop.

I raised my bedfloor 5" and cut that crossmember out. replace it with 2" underslung crossmember, and boxed that section of frame

It's a good idea, but it doesn't look very strong where you cut the arc into the channel. Could you repeat the over-hoop underneath the driveshaft?

I've got a similar problem with my '69 after the latest drop... but I've got to deal with the trailing arm mounts as well, which makes that particular xmember in need of being very strong.

You are correct.... your pinion should be a direct reflection of your trans output.......

Yeah I thought the same thing, I'm going to add some strength to it, I'll post pics later to explain what I mean. This area seemed to be pretty stiff already considering I have croos bars between my notches, and it's also bolted to the cab right in front of this.

I don't see a problem with the last picture.All it needs is a small gusset or the channel turned over so the short leg sticks up.Then you box the vertical leg with a piece of flat bar(1/4) thick.


Or one could just come straight up from the frame rails and go across higher then the driveshaft.Then it would just need to be braced front to back.

Not the best pic, but look towards the rear of the chassis and you'll see mine. I cut the stocker out and built this underslung version from 2x2 tubing, then braced it for the wishbone link.
