So your "rule of thumb" would have 16" wheels on 90% of the trucks from the 1990's and older. That may be a bit restrictive. The key (or so I think) is to balance the visual cues on the vehicle. 15's didn't do that on many vehicles, but that's all the marketplace offered the OEMs without spending a small fortune on special castings and selling their souls to the tire manufacturers. So... 15's it was. The marketplace has taken a pendulum swing with the advent of more effective (and cheaper) casting techniques, thus allowing anybody with $50k in their pocket and the ability to draw a circle and then stay inside the lines to make a wheel. With pressure from the growing wheel market (and simpler tire carcass production methods), the tire companies have kept pace. Now we have the OEM's on the other end of the deal, able to pick and choose among wheel vendors... so new vehicles have gone bigger and bigger-- again, not so much because of styling cues, but because that's what's being offered. (Of course, the marketing departments get involved and make big hay about the jumbo wheel "style"...).

OK, my dissertation is running dry. That's all.

Yeah ....I know that that would be only putting 16s on many vehicles,I dont care for large wheels (17+)on most vehicles some it looks good on. I'm just partial to 15s

if this is so they might just as well make low profile tires to fit 22.5 alcoa truckrims i like to fit thosre on my dually pickup.
there's a texan company that make these rims into 22 by turning them down in a lathe
the special tire would be a better idea than making the rimedge thinner.

i like those lighting wheels too btw , i wouldnt put those on my truck though .
think the next trick will be watching tv in those rims

30 inches on that truck is just too big , if you want that wheel to look right you might need to redesighn a truck around it

Re: 24's are for wimps...

They have wheels now that you can light up and put different designs on them (cant seem to find pictures this time)anyone want to try to find them (A lighted wheel rim system is provided for illuminating the wheel of a vehicle by projecting visible light through decorative openings disposed within the rim of a tire. The lighted wheel rim system includes a plurality of individual lights or lamps, which, together, form an arrangement which is stimulating and aesthetically pleasing to the human eye. The lighted wheel rim system has two major parts, including a light housing assembly and a lighting assembly. Flange portions on the light housing assembly are configured for mounting to the brake rotor splash guards or brake shield of a vehicle. The flange portions are dimensioned to correspond to the outer curvature, shape, and size of the brake shield and to hold the light housing assembly in spaced apart relation therefrom. Each wheel of a vehicle is configured with a ring of individual lights as an integrated electrical system.)

I'd love to see them drive into a crusher. They're just butt-ugly.

But then, that's just my opinion, albeit the correct opinion.
