Quadrajet carburetor problems!
My '85 has a quadrajet and if it sit more than a day it has to crank a long time before it wil start. I have always had Holleys or Eldelbrock carbs and if you pumped it one time, it would fire as soon as the thing turned over. If you pump this quad., it acts like there ain't a bit of gas in the carb. I know a lot about holleys, but this one I am in the dark. You can pump the crap out of it and it acts as if there is no gas in the carb. Do these things have a check valve in them that allows the gas to siphon back out if it is bad or something? I know there is a quadrajet nut out there that has the answer to this question. Thanks for the help in advance.

Re: Quadrajet carburetor problems!
Well, I don't know why they do this, but I have the same exact problem.

Re: Quadrajet carburetor problems!
I seemed to have fixed the problem on my quadrajet by changing the fuel filter to one that has a check valve built right in to it (you will see a plastic ball floating around inside the paper element). It starts good day to day but if I wait a week to start it I have trouble.

Re: Quadrajet carburetor problems!
I have the same problem with mine. I am guessing there is a float or needle valve that is sticking or not seating good that lets the gas leak back causing the hard starting. It seems like, once I get it started, I can shut it off and start it many times with no problem, but let it sit overnite, and I have to pump like heck to get it started again.

Re: Quadrajet carburetor problems!
When the rebuilders do a quadrajet, there are some spots in the bottom that they seal with JB Weld to stop them from leaking. Maybe you guys need to do that?

Re: Quadrajet carburetor problems!
i'd start by replacing the fuel pump....usually they have a check valve in them of some sort...also look at the seep holes on the pump to see if they are wet...if they are..the pump is bad....if that doesn't cure it look over the rubber lines...if they are dryed out and cracked they will allow air in and allow the carb. to drain back...but to be honest...get rid of the Q-toilet and get an edelbrock...
