Well done! 4lights are the best (IMO)! In regard to the disc brakes up front, I plan on the kit from CPP http://www.classicperform.com/4754chevtrk.html
Click on that link and you can scroll down to find whatever you need for your ride.

Re: pics of my new toy
Nice buy.... From the looks of it the PO took some pride in what he did. I don't think you'll find to many hidden uglies with this truck.
Before you think Disc brakes think front end. If you leave the straight axle or replace it with a MII or clip. I've seen some nice Camaro clips and some really ugly hacks. MII is very popular and you can get parts on almost ant street corner now. The clip I really like is form RBsobsolete.com its a clip that slides into the frame after you chop off existing front rails. It uses I think Impala suspension parts which are about a dime a dozen. It appears to be from the install instructions almost a weekend deal. The trans and drive line takes some planning. If you change the trans you need a new drive shaft. Then if you change the rear later you again need a drive shaft or have it reworked. Change the rear and trans at the same time need one shaft fix. You can run a 10 bolt or a 12 bolt rear. 10 bolts when they are beefed up are very strong and are great for the occasional traffic light burn through. If you use the RBS obsolete clip and come across a v8 Caprice corpse like an old Police car your half way there. |

Re: pics of my new toy
Sweet looking ride! Great color. Judging by the appearance of the engine, it must have some nice internals. Do you know what it's got? I think you got a deal. Gotta love the 4 lighters.

Re: pics of my new toy
Outta curiosity, what do you plan on using the truck for? This might determine what trans/rear you pick. For example, my '54 will be a cruiser, and never be used to tow or go to the dump. So a mild 350 with a 700R4 and mild gears in my 10 bolt with 4 wheel disc are enough to get me down the road.

Re: pics of my new toy
I had a '58 Apache in 1995. I loved that truck and I am in no way trying to HIGHJACK this thread but I need to tell this story. It was fire engine red with white bumpers, grill, and headlight bezels. Ralley wheels painted red with '58 dogdish caps and beauty rings. It had a '78 Corvette 350 with a saginaw 4-speed and a 4:11 rear. Great running truck. I found out I was going to do a 3 year tour in England so I decided to change the rear to a 3:73 and give it to my 16 year old son who was staying in the states. All he had to do was finish running the brakelines and install the brakes on the newly rebuilt 12 bolt. About a year and a half go by when I'm talking to my mother in our weekly sunday phone conversation when she puts my son on the phone so he can tell me what he did with the truck. He TRADED it for a piece of sh!t 4-wheeler that stayed constantly broke. I told him I would have taken the truck back and bought him that damn 4-wheeler. Needless to say I have never given him anything else. It felt good to get that off my chest. Sorry to eat up space on your thread Kajo. By the way that is a beautiful truck you got. Enjoy it!

Re: pics of my new toy
IMO Auto with OD is the way to go with 3.73 or milder in a 10 bolt. If you were going for performance I'd say manual with 3.73 or taller in a 12 bolt.
