what engine temp????
might seem like a silly question but what should my engine temp gauge be reading? in the uk we work on celcus but the gauge in my chevy is in ferenhiet, any numbers please

Mine is around 200 or so. It should be below the boiling point which is 212.

thermostats are rated at two different tempatures. 185 and 195. i typicly put a 185 in my truck just becuse i think it runs better that way but the truck came with a 195.

my gauge never goes above 120f, has the belt driven fan plus two front mounted eletric fans, is this to low?

yes..........you have to have it hot enough to burn off the deposits that engines leave in the oil. Plus to a certain point heat wise the hotter the better efficiency

mine seems to be hitting 230-235 (summertime, texas heat, a/c on.) don't know what thermostat i have, but should i be concerned? measured from aftermarket sunpro mech gauge.

Our pickups were designed for 180° F. thermostats. Manufacturers later went to 195° thermostats for reduction of emissions. The down side of the 195° thermostats is that they create much higher pressures in the cooling system resulting in much larger leaks and components fail sooner. Most of the time if you use a 160° thermostat, you can remove the radiator cap and drive around all day without experiencing any problems. This is a plus if your cooling system has any leaks or is weak.
