will this tranny fit??

hey guys uhh i have a 1979 Chevy Scotttsdale it has a 3 PSD manual tranny with the granny gear in it right now.. my truck has a 350 enginge in it.. i have a 400 TURBO trans out of a 66 chevelle that had a 387 stroker in it.. well i was wondering if this tranny would fit the 350?? if not does anyone know what trans id need to get? an automatic or a 5 spd manual...

should fit no problem, other than putting a shifter in it. I hope you are not looking for fuel mileage. I would also consider what rear end it has. My 87 had tbi 350 turbo 400 and a 273 gear when i bought it.

well the truck has the oroiginal rear end. its prolly geard low as well as the tranny in it now.. so what would i have to do for the rear end?? if i were to use the turbo 400 trans?

I Would Imagine That Truck Has A 410, I Think I Would Find A Used Complete Rear Diff Assembly. Possibly With A 323 Or 342 Ring And Pinion. Not Really Sure What Can Be Put Into What You Have Now.
You Need To Try And Determine Weather You Want Take Off Power Or The Ability To Drive On The Highway, And Then Find A Happy Medium.

so i couldnt jus put the tranny in and itd be ok? would the gearing be too low prolly? i do really care bout the gas mileage i mean the truck gets about 12 mpg now so itll prolly go a little down?

Sorry That Should Say Dont Worry About What Else Happens, Anything You Got Is Better Than That Three Speed. Also You Might Measure For The Length Of The Drive Shaft..... I Forgot About That.

yea i was already worrie bout the driveshaft.. but i was reading in the shop manual i have for the truck and it said that those trucks some came with the turbo 400 trans.. but im sure the one i have is a little different being out of a chevelle n all..
