Re: C50 question
Depending on the bed that is on it, the dry weight will be about 9k and the GVW should be stated on the VIN plate. Most of the ones I have seen and my GMC 5500 the VIN plate states (16,500 to 23,000 GVW).
Remember...any vehicle with a GVW over 10,000 automatically falls into a "commercial" catagory and is subject to DOT rules and inspections. Drivers Health card road triangles, fire extinguiser. No leaks, good tires, rust, and all the other 1000 things they look for to write you a ticket and generate revenue. Here is mine...just awaiting paint and body Last edited by 72freak; 12-09-2006 at 07:06 AM. |

Re: C50 question
Can you get its weight lowered to avoid the fees? Ive seen superduty tow trucks with a GVW of 15,000, and a one ton chevy with a GVW of 20K. Could you lower your GVW as long as you didn't haul more than what you are regiestered for? (even tho the truck is rated for more)
Bad turbo, youd better s__t and get so you dont loose out on this one either. |

Re: C50 question
It looks pretty straight from the street, but I haven't looked closely at it.
Its over by In N Out burger so I've seen it while getting burgers. If I remember correctly he wants $1300 for it. I can look closer if you want or get some pics.

I think that will only apply if the truck is used for commercial purposes. Motorhomes weigh in more than the C50, but are exempt from DOT regs as long as they are for "personal use only", nor do they require a CDL to drive 'em. RD |

Motorhomes have RV classification and are exempt!!!! Thats why you see on the side of these big toterhomes,,,"RV use only"...its not a "personal use" thing..its an RV thing Anything else...commercvial use, farm use, for fun....if the GVW is over 10k...you are fair game to all the DOT rules!!!!! |

Re: C50 question
Or just put a toilet, microwave and mini fridge in it and call it a RV.

Re: C50 question
Dang, $300? that is cheap. If the fenders are good, you can get over $100 a piece. Take the cab off and sell it back east for 1000 and up if its in good shape. Make sum monahy!

Re: C50 question
You could shorten the frame, add a pickup bed, lower it, and call it a big pickup. It depends on the state trooper you meet, and where you are driving on what rules apply. on a city street a trooper can't enforce all of the rules that he can on a major highway. as I understand the rules if your truck is tagged over 12k and it doesn't have "not for hire" visible on it you will fall under the exact same rules as an 18 wheeler running coast to coast. If you want the best answer for you call a local weigh station or highway patrol office they can give you an answer. the reason I recommend the weigh station first is those troopers are the ones in the field that would be doing the inspecting.

When I first got into driving commercial vehicles I called a weigh station and actually was told the wrong information and ended up getting a ticket the next week. On a lot of laws, every state will be different so be carefull!!! |
