Idea For Lifting A Cab With A Cherry Picker
I Came Up With A Idea After Helping Ron586 Load A Cab Onto His Trailer That I Sold Him Saturday. This Is A Attachment You Could Make To Attach To Your Cherry Picker To Make It Easy To Lift A Cab. This Would Bolt Up To Your Cherry Picker Where The Lift Chain Is. You Would Then Roll The Cherry Picker With The Attachment On It Through One Of The Door Openings And With This Attachment Against The Roof It Would Be A Safe Easy Way For One Man To Lift A Cab. I May Try To Get The Old Welder Out This Week And Make One.

Re: Idea For Lifting A Cab With A Cherry Picker
Looks like a real good idea. Might want to put a rubber mat, old carpet, or something on top to protect the roof. Just my $.02. Thanks for the idea, I'll have to build one when i get a cherry picker. I have a couple cabs I'm going to try and restore this summer. Thanks Jason

Re: Idea For Lifting A Cab With A Cherry Picker
i just lifted mine safely using a 4x4 from a realty sign. I used ratchet down straps with a 2x4 wedge to affix the 4x4 to the arm of the hoist. wrapped towels around where it came into contact with the doors. undid the cab mounts, master cylinder, e-brake cable and trailering wires, but forgot to undo the ground strap it quickly busted off, but the cab came off with ease. still haven't taken the pictures off the camera yet.

Re: Idea For Lifting A Cab With A Cherry Picker
Ive seen it done with 2 cherry pickers, on a 4wd. The driveway was not wide enough to accommodate rolling the cab away from the frame.

Hey Shifty,
That truck hasn't been painted long has it? I like that color.

Re: Idea For Lifting A Cab With A Cherry Picker
I love the idea of lifting the cab with the cherry picker. I have one problem with it though that might spark a little debate:
Lifting the cab by the top with the glass installed looks to me like asking for cracked glass. My friend bought a truck with his front glass strangely cracked in the exact same spot on both sides of the windsheild. Upon later examination we found his 1/2 ton truck is sitting on a 3/4 leaf spring frame with 1/2 ton gear. Basically the whole truck was transplanted onto a new frame. We believe he didn't lift the cab correctly and it tweaked the cab and broke his windsheild. Just be careful when jerry rigging up something to lift the cab off your frame. You might bend it to an unrepairable condition. If you wanted to lift it without hurting anything, I would recommend making a jig that would lift the cab from the original cab frame bolt points. You could bolt them in from the inside with the doors off and lift it from the structure that was designed to hold the cab up. I know this would be more difficult to make and more difficult to hook up but in the long run it would be much better than a bent cab. Just my two cents..... |

Re: Idea For Lifting A Cab With A Cherry Picker
the best way i found to lift the cab with a cherry picker .
is to put all 4 bolts in the cab were it bolt to the frame. with chains to the middle of the cab and hook it to the cherry picker and lift it that way. you will need to hold on to it just to balance it.

Re: Idea For Lifting A Cab With A Cherry Picker
I used the back cab mount locations as well, but used the front lower fender mount holes because the extra width made it a little more stable. Worked well and I did it all by myself, though it would have been nice to have an extra set of hands for balance.

Re: Idea For Lifting A Cab With A Cherry Picker
I have a couple engine lift plates laying around, and figured i'd just weld one to the floor, and lift it that way. I don't care about the cab, so if i damage it Oh well, it's worth a shot.

Re: Idea For Lifting A Cab With A Cherry Picker
Personaly I like the "one man cab & bed lift" way of doing it! You can also use this for lifting a fleet side bed! Plans are done and paypal should be set up this week when plans come back from the printer. Plus when it is all done you fold it up and stand it in the corner
