Re: HELP! 64, need to get ignition out.
Depending on what year the column is will depend on how the key cylinder comes out, most of the locks in columns have the release inside, which means you will need to pull the steeringwheel to get to it. If you just want to get the key out, try a hack saw blade. Just trim the smooth side of the blade down till it is pretty thin, and you should be able to fish it out.

If the key is in the colum you can pull the wheel and remove a phillips head screw and it will come out. Some you will need to remove the lockkplate. It's held in place by a lock ring. It's actually really easy. Auto Zone should rent all the tools you ned.

On a 64 isn't the key in the insert? Can you take the whole dash insert out?

Re: HELP! 64, need to get ignition out.
Have you tried a lock smith?? Cost me about $15 when I lost the keys to my "55 Chevy Sedan... They made me 2 keys and it only took about 15 minutes from the time the guy started, to the time I walked out the door...
I was soo bummed because I lost the ORIGINAL keys.. They were paper thin and worn down to almost just a stub.. Anywho, lock smiths have master keys. They'll try one, then the next one, then the next one, then the next one, then the next, then the next, then the next, then the next, then the next, then the next, then the next, then the next, then the next, then the next, then the next, then the next, then the next....... You get the point... Elias Eh-lee-us or "E" |
