About to order some parts...few last minute questions...
If my truck has been lowered 5" in the rear, (2-blocks, 3-springs) do i need to relocate my shocks and buy new drop shocks?
I plan on buying a c-notch from CPP, i heard if i mention some ad or something you can get it for $100 is this true? Also, my rear angle driveline is not totally correct but i have never had any vibration problems...should i get some rear pinion angle shims? I saw some on classic perform....worth it or not? How would i measure what angle i need? Thanks guys Nate |

I think the shock relocators would be a good idea. I have a 5" drop spring in the rear of my truck and the shocks are angled pretty steep. I need to get some myself. I can't help you with the CPP ad, but I'm sure someone else on here may know.

Shock relocators won't be needed, since your doing a 3" spring and a 2" block. The CPP is for $99 on their website, not sure about an ad, but it is on their under holiday sale at the top of the home page.
As far as the angle shims, I wouldn't worry about it if you don't have any launch shudder.

I have been told shock relocating mounts are a good idea when going as low as you are thinking and ive also head that pinion angle is VERY important to maintain. I think its something like 1 or 2 degrees down. If I run across a webpage with that info i will post it.
Just FYI I have a cnotch kit for sale that I bought from truckandcarshop for $105 plus shipping and I am selling it for $85 shipped in THIS post. GL with the project man.

well the previous owner swapped in a 78' rear end into my 64, and when he welded the new brackets on he didnt get the angle totally right. the rear end is angled "up" to much, but when i had the gears changed the mechanic said it shouldnt be too big a deal if it doesnt vibrate. I've put like 6000 miles on it in the last year....as far as the shock relocators, do i just need the relocators or do i need to replace my shocks as well...im confused on that part...

they aren't too old and work fine. I guess the question is will my stock shocks work once I've done the relocating or do I need a 3" shorter shock or something...

I don't think you will need shorter shocks. I think the shocks I have are stock height and I am running bags and CPP relocators. I bought the kit from CPP that came with 4 shocks and rear relocators. The front shocks I got 3" lower and I ended up sending them back and getting stock height ones because the shor shocks linited my lift height when aired up.

ok that's reassuring. as long as it will "work." I might very well end up putting new shocks on later, but right now im in college and home for xmas and want to do it up right but have no money. I'd rather splurge and do the notch and relocators at the same time (easier that way prob) and worry about the shocks a few months down the road...
Final question I swear (for now)... To correct my pinion angle i noticed that CPP sold some shims that i presume fit in between where the blocks are now...How would I go about measuring how many degrees it is off right now to order the right shims? thanks, Nate |

Google "driveline angle gauge" Car Craft has a pretty good article, and shows the tool that you need.

Fish, take my word for it, you don't NEED the shock relocation kit with a 3" spring drop. Once you hit a 5" drop with springs only I would consider them. If you want them, go ahead and spend the money. Yes, the shocks will be at an angle, but the angle does't change that drastically with a 3" drop over stock.
It sounds like this drop has already been done. Does it ride bad? Is something binding? Does it bottom out? I have 4" springs with a 2" block and have NEVER bottomed out (well, I never haul anything but people, so if you haul items you may). If you have had problems bottoming out, then buy the c-notch. up until a few months ago i never bottomed out. But now I do all the time...I've started to carry around an inflatable boat and motor in the bed at all times which adds about 250 pounds right over the rear end...hence the need for the c-notch. and in a few weeks I'll have a 2500 lb boat to tow, which is why i opted to get the shock relocators as well...hopefully it all goes together successfully...crossing fingers
