Header RAGE!!!!

I hate headers now, plain and simple. Ordered some a while back and Summit sent me the wrong ones. No big deal, they said, just send them back. So off to FEDEX I go with a box full of bent of tubing to give back to summit. So being the great company they are, they go out of there way to look up the "right ones" and send them off to me as soon as they recieved the other ones. These so called "right ones" turn out to be the wrong ones so now I hate headers. If you've ever shopped for 4x4 4 speed headers you might understand where i'm coming from. The clutch linkage just ain't working out for me. It's close enough where I could modify it but I shouldn't have to do that. I might be off to the scrap yard real soon to pick up some manifolds but i've tried that and for some stupid moronic reason junk yards are real f*&^ing proud of them. I might take up drinking instead of trucks from now on.

Re: Header RAGE!!!!

You can go to the local parts store and get new rams horn manifolds. Why pay a junk yard for old ones that probably have cracks in them. Just my opinion.

This is why i am going to put in a hydraulic clutch setup from an 86 chevy pickup. I already have the bellhousing, so i might as well.

Re: Header RAGE!!!!

I assume you have a 350SBC.
Here is a pic of my old 350 with Hedmen Elite series coated headers:

You can see the bracket that holds the frame side of the Z-bar. I relocated the mount hole just 1" over and they clear just fine. I had a set of Hedmen (cheaper version) first and they ended up warping after 4yrs so I got the Elite series cuz they had super thick flanges and don't warp like the cheeper versions do.
Now with the 454BBC I installed, I swaped out the manual linkage for hydro setup wich made the install WAY easier and realy the only way to get Thorleys to work on a BBC...

You can see the slave cylinder mounted to my cast bellhousing. I removed the frame bracket too as it is no longer needed.

here is the bracket I used to mount the slave to my old cast bell housing:

So if you decide to go Hydro you don't have to switch the bell housing to the weaker alluminum one that GM uses for Hydro...
Good Luck

Re: Header RAGE!!!!

Sounds like your problem is with SUMMIT. As the manager of a local speed shop I'm always a little confused as to why people will support the big mail-order companies rather than thier local businesses just to save a few bucks. Now, if you dont have a good local speed shop, then I understand. ALSO, one more thing. If you plan on driving thru lots of mud I wouldnt bother investing in expensive ceramic coated headers...they will just turn a nice shade of light brown.

It smells like jealousy in here.

I looked up the hooker headers and it looks they will be the best fit but I still haven't decided on whether or not i'll look into some manifolds or not. I don't even care right now, i'll have more time to worry about it after Christmas.

Where did you get the slave cylinder or who makes it. I may just go that way instead. Need to get rid of my worn out clutch linkage somehow anyway.

I agree with you 110%! The problem is we don't have many speed shops in Texas, especially South Texas. There is the occasional off-road shop, but other than that, AutoZone is your best bet! (pretty pathetic, huh) Why don't you come on down and open up a shop for us. I promise I would visit you everyday!!!

Re: Header RAGE!!!!

The slave cylinder is from a 80s Toyota Land Cruzer. The mounting bracket is made by thease guys:
http://www.advanceadapters.com/

They make it mainly for thoes guys that put Chevy drivetrains in a Land Cruzers...
So far this setup has worked verywell....
