mark25 the 5,000 rpm power band might be a bit optimistic. A 383 will need a very good head and a fairly big cam to pull hard all the way to 6,500 rpm. By the time you get that kind of air capacity you'll be somewhat soggy on the bottom end and will need about a 3000 stall. The good news is 383s can make near 500hp below 6,000rpm.
