Red face Gotta fix what the DUI driver did ...

Several months ago, my girlfriend's '72 K5 was hit by a drunk and totaled. (See avatar) She just got her settlement from the insurance company we're ready to start fixing the damage. The two pieces that need to be replaced are the front passenger-side fender well (battery leaked and ate through it after the crash) and the frame. I'm getting nervous about this work mostly because I'm having a tough time finding a frame. I'd rather not have to find another truck to remove it from. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find a frame? I've heard rumors that they are still made and would rather get a new frame if possible.

New frame? only through a custom building / fab shop, an OE frame is
not available IIRC, Keep an eye on the parts board & craiglist, they are
out there, not sure what you're going to have to $ for one, good luck.

Re: Gotta fix what the DUI driver did ...

I'm sure youi could fine an old k5 frame or rolling chassis for pretty cheap I know member Teeitup had one for sale a month or so ago. I would think a 4 wheel frame would be easy to find since so many people convert to 2 wheel drive.

Oh, that makes sense after I re-red the post. Still though, who makes them for Rovers? Aftermarket or Rover themselves? Maybe if enough people send in asking for a Chevy frame they would…???

how much of the frame is damaged you might be able to just replace the areas that are not repairable

Re: Gotta fix what the DUI driver did ...

I've been watching this thread and replying to PMs and wanted to say thanks to those who've helped point me in the in all the right directions. I'm thrilled to say that I've found a frame, and thankfully its less than 50 miles from my house. It comes with the shackles from Colorado K5, and to be honest I have no idea what that means. Anyone have any ideas?

Pharcyde05: The rear bumper has been pushed under the car and the front left side has a crack where the steering box would go. We discussed cutting out the rear part of the fame and doing a rollpan, but my girlfriend likes her rear bumper (not that I blame her )

I'm THINKING about having the frame finished in some way (Rhino-lining???) Any thoughts or am I just blowing wads of money on something that we don't REALLY need. (this truck won't be for any serious off-roading)

Or powder coated, though it chips really easy, I wouldn't coat it with bedliner. I think I would just go por15...if it was mine.

Re: Gotta fix what the DUI driver did ...

Wow! That stuff looks wicked! I'll have to do more research, but it looks like a strong contender (especially since I can do it myself) Anyone have experiance with it ... RED72? Anything I should know (I've already read the directions "for people who don't read directions" (it was calling to me for some strange reason)!

Is this something that COULD be shot in my buddy's paint booth?
