Need Help
I have a 70 chevy c-10 with 350. I have edelbrock carb. The problem im having started today. Truck ran fine then all of a sudden it started running bad. Idles fine but when I give it gas it kindof studders and has back fired. I checked the timing changed the fuel filter and plugs the backfiring stopped but the truck still studders and seems to lack power. I was told it might be the fuel pump but dont know.

Re: Need Help
Have you checked your plug wires? Maybe one got burned and is causing a miss? Just a thought. Good luck.

Re: Need Help
Sounds like it could be fuel starvation. It's easy to check the pump and the process is outlined in your service manual - but basically it's a matter of removing the pump to carb line and putting it in a jar, remove the coil lead to prevent the engine from starting, then have someone turn over the engine and see if any fuel is being pumped. You can accomplish the same thing with an inline fuel pressure gauge if you have one.
It's a good place to start if nothing else has changed. |

Re: Need Help
I had the same problem. Tested the fuel pump and it was fine but I bought a new one anyways. Next I blew out the gas lines and the truck worked great til I filled up again. Turned out their was sediment (rust) at the bottom of the tank. Rad shops can ussually clean your tank and they add a coating. I'd install a see through inline fuel filter before the pump first. That way you could see if its getting gunked up.
Be sure all your vaccums are capped and the throttle cable is getting full play. Good luck
