Computer Mount Location

Hello,

I have a couple of quick questions for those of you that are running computer controlled engines.

Where are you mounting your computer?

What type of mount are you using and where did you get it?

I am in the process of putting 6.0L & 4L80E in my '69. I want to put the computer under the seat. If there are any reasons that I have not considered I am sure you will be able point me in the right direction.

You can mount the 6.0L computer anywhere you want inside or outside the cab. There is no reason you cannot mount it under the seat.

Im putting the PCM for my LT1 swap in the same location it came from...front left of the engine compartment. I figure I might buy an auxiliary battery tray and mount it on that. I was thinking at one point about mounting it in the cab near the glovebox but if the factory location was good enough for GM engineers then its good enough for me.

I was thinking about on the firewall behind the glove box but I have no idea how much space the factory air a/c is going to take up. Anyone have any installed pics of this?

Lack of wire is a good reason Mine won't reach that far.

A recent post showed someone mounting on the inner fender next to the pass. side of the block.

I was going to run a grommet on my heater delete plate and mount it under the glovebox, then move it later when I can afford a better harness.

I have seen most people mount it on the inner fender or inside of the fender somewhere.

The most important thing is this: If it can come in contact with water, make sure the contacts (red and blue connectors) are pointing down so water won't drip and pool in them.

What is used to hold the PCM?

On mine there are no mounting holes of any kind. I need to visit the dealership to find out how it is mount in stock form.

You'd need to go to a junkyard or find a friend with a '98-02 F-body to find that one out. My PCM is held in a plastic housing. It is supposed to bolt to the firewall in the stock car.

Someone put it on a low hump and covered it with a high hump. Thought that setup was sweet. Easy access. When I do it, I'll put all my electricals like that (bags, fuse box, ecu). Cover it with a carpet and voila...

Well, he was asking about a new harness and Painless has one for only $530, 40 mone and it is about 8 feet longer....

Mine is in the glove box, I made a braket to house it there. No chance of putting the glove box liner back in but with a center console I can live with it. Doing this let me run the wires for the engine compartment behind the heater box out of site. I am also using the electronic throttle control constrol so it works out nice.

I had to drill a hole through the firewall to run the wires but I put it low and behind so it's hard to see and makes a clean look with the wires.

How did you like the Painless harness? Did it come pre-bundled (loom/tape), or did you need to do it?

My stock harness (post-hacking by Wait4Me Performance) has just enough to let it fit on the passenger kick panel, but barely. Won't quite reach the seat. I've been seriously thinking about buying a Speartech harness, I have physically seen their product in person, it truly is plug-and-play, and honestly worth every penny IMHO. (but ... again - $700 would lower my truck and I already have what I believe is a "working" harness)
