first trip, what a nightmare
Finally got my truck up and running and my first trip was from austin to san marcos, about 30 miles. The alt. wasnt charging and it kept dying so after 4 hrs at the autozone i finally had the problem fixed and made it the rest of the way without a problem. Looking back i should have budgeted more time for acouple test drives around home first but o well. Thanks for everyones help, this was my first build up and although its not done i think it came out pretty nice. Ill try and post some pics tommorow.

Re: first trip, what a nightmare
Congrats Texas69 on that first ride! Yea, in the future take lots of little down the street test drives first. Then gradually you go a little further until you are sure you get all the bugs out. We all get bugs when we build a car or truck its just part of it.

Re: first trip, what a nightmare
There is nothing that beats that first drive on the truck that you built up even with problems...Yeah you right maybe take some more time and drive not so far...But i think i would be the same way...Good luck on the truck...

Re: first trip, what a nightmare
What did it turn out to be. My 70 flatbed just started not charging up, but when I took the alternator in for a check, it checked out fine. But when I pull the positive cable, the truck dies. I think it may be one of the wires going from the alt to the battery or a grounding wire. Would be interested in what you found out.
