let's put it to a vote
poolboy's thread on his newly finished front end, which turned out great.and involves alot of hours of work.if that's the look you want. and alot do.but,i also get the idea from reading previous post's on this subject it's not everyone's cup of tea.i think one thing everyone agree's on. is customizing to your taste is what makes this hobby great.we haven't had a poll in a long time.so, what the heck, let's try one

Re: let's put it to a vote
I guess I have no use for it since my DD is a 91 suburban and my toy is the 78. There is just no way I would put the newer clip on my old truck.

Re: let's put it to a vote
Not a fan of the newer fronts on older trucks...defeats the purpose of having an older truck IMO. With that being said, I still like the trucks and the customization being performed on them...even if I don't like some mods I see on a personal level.

Re: let's put it to a vote
I don't think I would ever go to the trouble and expense. I like the GMC front end, but I have no problem with the older style, either. I do like one of the 80s GMC grilles, and have considered putting one of those in if I can get an aftermarket one without the GMC logo. I can't remember what year it is.

Re: let's put it to a vote
81-87 looks good with the new fronts on them
the 73-80 i think you have to replace the front fenders for it to look fine, but it just doesnt go with the body lines phantom grill ftw |

Some I would...other I wouldn't. Just depends on the truck.

Re: let's put it to a vote
I like it, however the GMC grille looks off without the logo to break up the big expanse of black.

"went out with the mullett"
lol. I wanted to do this conversion on my '81 c10 back in '96. 1996. I like the front clip of the 73-79(?) the best.

Re: let's put it to a vote
I guess it would be up to the vehicle. I did swap over to a GMC grille for my S-10 Race truck, but wouldnt even think about swapping out the nose on my 77 C10.

Re: let's put it to a vote
I would have to say "to each his own" I would like to have a truck that is a little different. I struggled long on the GMC grill. I plan on color matching all the grey around the lights and getting a billet grill. What do you think?

Re: let's put it to a vote
PB already had the '81 & up sheetmetal so the swap is not THAT drastic IMO.
Personally doing it on '81 & up I can go either way--but on 73-80 I say no way! |

Re: let's put it to a vote
Personally, I don't like the look. For some reason, I think the front end looks scrunched together on that clip. My personal favorite is the 81-87 silverado clip. The dual stacked headlights are just badass. If I ever swap front ends, it'll be to that, not the burban.

Re: let's put it to a vote
I have people asking what style grill I'm putting in my truck when I finish, I tell them stock. They start telling me how much better it would look with different grills. So I say that's one of the first things most people change that I want my truck to look old school, Lowered and shaved....Love that deep grill !

Re: let's put it to a vote
While I agree that the GMC version looks best, I wouldn't do one myself. As stated above the reason I like these trucks is the styling. I like cleaning them up but not radical changes.

Re: let's put it to a vote
customizing is totally subjective. I like clean stockish look, hate huge wheels but I can appreciate anything done well.

Re: let's put it to a vote
I would only attempt the 81 and up models. I like your idea of the color match and billet grill. Do the grill first though because that may be all you want to change. I think you also need to get the factory air dam for under your bumper. Gives it the lower and more complete look. The lowering kit will look great and probably have you researching wheels.
