Ever get burnt out?

I'm really burnt out on working on my truck, i'm 8500 deep and it still doesnt run and drive. Here all is what I have left to do, and anymore i'm working 6 days a week due to the increase in volume at work, so when sunday comes around im just too bummed to work on my truck, but this is whats left.

Remove 3spd driveshaft
Install Auto Xmember
Install 350 & TH400
Install driveshaft
Put new frontend wiring harnesses on
Install the new 68 front end
Plumb the front brakes and bleed the whole system.

Anyone else burnt out on their truck?

Re: Ever get burnt out?

it happens to everyone. your almost there man. take one solid day and decide that your going to finish it up dont make excuses. do the engine stuff first and get it to make some noise. once your hear it fire off and make a bunch of noise you will find the motivation to do the rest of what needs to be done.you got a days worth of work left and you can drive the truck. get a buddy to come over and provide the beer

I went down to my shop today, found a huge puddle of fresh oil, 1/4" deep, mice ate thru the corners on 3 1gallon containers of mobile 1. So I spent a good 2 hours cleaning it all up, after that, I said screw it and went back to the house.

Hey cableguy, how's the weather out in baltimore? I hear ya'll are getting snow and freezing rain. Family from the eastern shore called me and said it's sleeting there.

I think i'm going to take a 3day weekend here soon off of work and get it all done.

Re: Ever get burnt out?

right now it just stopped sleeting and its now freezing rain im a bit north of baltimore in cockeysville.we got about 3 inches of snow before the ice started. thats all you need to do is just take the time to get it finished then it will be one less thing for you to worry about

Re: Ever get burnt out?

Well make sure those mice are checked every 3,000 miles, and were their filters changed? poking fun here, it sure is easy to get discouraged doing these projects, but from what you have listed, it doesn't look like you have that much more to do, grab a wrench and a beer , find a classic rock station, turn off the cell and have at it.

Re: Ever get burnt out?

It also does'nt hurt , to find your most comfortable chair, pick your favorate cd in the stereo and pick out the most appealing looking portion of the truck and admire your work so far, No need to swing a wrench and feel guilt for not doing so, I can totally relate to having coming home from work (especially when you work 6 days a week) and not wanting to work somemore, but LIke lngbed71 says " it's Therapy, Take time off if you need to , or you will feel the need to rush, rush is not what you wanna do. If it feels like a chore, come back to it another time, day , week , or month, as far as the money goes, it is'nt too hard to roll tons of dough into these projects we tackle. good luck with your tiredness and getting your girl roll'n.

Re: Ever get burnt out?

Don't take it too serious man. I've learned when I get burned out, nothing's going to happen if it sits there more time. The biggest thing is if you have a garage/shop. Like this weekend I busted it to get all my th400 gaskets replaced and sealed up, then I installed a new carb took it for a long run, and come to find out the carb is leaking a slight bit, now I have to call barry grant and see what happens, but the main thing is it's in the garage, and it don't matter how long it sits half disassembled. What always seems to happen to me is when doing any kind of simple task to the truck I always run into an annoying problem like a crossed thread, or I end up needing some simple thing like a cotter pin or a bolt or hose, and it does get annoying especially when you live out in the country 10 miles from town.

Re: Ever get burnt out?

A quick cure for bunred outness is to get another vehicle... my girlfriend got a 79 Yota truck last month and I have been working on that instead.

Not really... but it's kinda inspirational.
Plus it's been snowy and crappy here so I can't get the 67 project out of the shop. Meh... spring needs to get here in a hurry

Re: Ever get burnt out?

You know what? Call me crazy, but for me the funnest thing is drivin' it, and having the satisfaction of enjoying the work you've done. I know so many guys that get 95% done, and get burned out and it sits, or as soon as it's finished, they sell it and buy another project. Never enjoy or appreciate it. You're missin' out when you do that. Take it out and mash on the gas - there's always something you can do to them, even the most perfect ones. Life's too short. I say, get that thing running and drive the crap out of it.

Re: Ever get burnt out?

I got burned out last months on mine and it seems like I only got started. But anyways, I decided to take a break from all that body work and focus on my engine. Cleaned it up, redid all the gasket, paint it, and gonna stick alot of chrome or polish stuff on it. Then later when I get burned out again, I'll just take a moment of silence and look at my nice clean shiny motor and that will be enough motivation for me.

Re: Ever get burnt out?

Yes but it is more in my job than anything else. My truck is therapy wrenching on the weekends to reuce stress from the job. Some time referred to anger management reduction - beat sheet with a hammer.

Re: Ever get burnt out?

I burnt myself out. Took 2 days off from work to finnish my 700r4 switch. I also added some other stuff that needed replacing. Got to Sunday and I was getting fed up with everything. Seem like everything was going wrong. It came down to a throttle cable and a stud for the transmission TV cable that I had to order from Jegs. While I was running around looking for the stud at some local dealerships I hit a pothole that was covered by water in my wifes Route 66 PT (only has 3k miles and alum. rims) blew out the tire and slightly bent the rim. The rim still works and the tire cost me $250. I just hope it doesn't start raining soon becouse right now the only way I have to get to work is on my bike.

Re: Ever get burnt out?

i really know what yall mean. we swapped the 383 in my 70 and the only thing keeping it from running is the torque converter bolts, fuel pump, and i need some new headers for the different heads im running now. and its been sitting needing those parts for a few months now.

what really took my attention was my newest truck. 03 silverado 1500hd w/ the 6.0 lq4 motor. got a custom tune, dumped the exhaust, and put a cold air intake on it. ive been thinking about modifying it so much lately ive gotten away from the oldtruck. seems like i need to switch gears and get back to the old truck!
