Re: 69 control arms?

Also are 3/4 ton control arms the same as 1/2 ton?

Re: 69 control arms?

The LMC catalog says that all 1/2 ton 2WD 67-72's had the same control arms upper and lower. It lists 3/4 ton 71-72 as a different part, but I don't understand why they don't have a 3/4 ton listing for pre-71 trucks.

Interesting you mention LMC. I got both a 67-72 and a 73-87 LMC catalog so I could see parts listed for the 73-87 trucks that will fit ours and noticed that
According to LMC:

67-72 1/2 ton control arms are the same part as the 73-87 3/4 ton control arms. They use the same cross shafts and end nuts. The later 73-87 1/2 ton arms are different and have rubber bushing instead of the threaded metal end nuts like ours.

Re: 69 control arms?

Are the arms with the big threaded end nuts better than the later ones with the rubber bushings, washer & nut?

The later arms w/the rubber bushings have a better ride quality because they offer more isolation/dampening.

They use the same cross-shaft & bushings but from what I've read the BJ diameter is slightly larger (88-up truck lower BJ dia). I think this is how they do the 'cheap' 6-lug disc swaps (73-up 3/4 ton lower a-arm, 88-up LT duty 3/4 ton spindles, 6-lug disc brake rotors/calipers).

Re: 69 control arms?

i did a post similar to this a little while back and found out that 67-87 3/4 and 1/2 ton upper control arms identical but lower control arms are differnet do to ball joints (other than that athey are also identical). Gm changed the design of there spindles in 73 to a shorter version so they used taller balljoints, and they also changed the tie rod diameters and lenghts.
