Re: What parts aren't out there?
How about a whole truck like there doing with the 67/69 camaros, or a cab, with a chopped top and modern window seals. Maybe im thinking to big.
Auxilery battery box doesnt make sence to me.i see them in junk yards all the time. But the 67/8 grills are a good idea. |

Re: What parts aren't out there?
How about designing a "kit" for creating and extended cab or crew cab pickup. There would be roof panels, floor sections, 4th doors, etc. They could be modeled after some of the fine examples on the board.

Reproduction seat frames. The original bench seats are getting few and far between.

67-70 automatic shift indicator pointer no tilt. Been looking forever and all they make is 71-72's.

Yes; it does take a lot of time and money to produce parts. That is exactly why a public forum like this is an ideal resource for new product development ideas. After all of the obvious parts are made it takes a little more research to decide what to do next. |

Re: What parts aren't out there?
I discussed many of the above with "The Truck Shop' from Orange County who imports millions of $$ worth of this stuff. They have no interest in expanding the 'sheet metal business" as it is too costly to produce, too expensive to ship and too problematic with damage in shipping. They make their $$ with the little chrome stuff.
As discussed above --things like 71-2 tow hooks that are cast and bring over $250. a pair--wouldn't be damaged in shipping and little issue with fit/finish/dents!! The blazer rear seat hold downs are another item that could be easily re-popped and bring $35-55. a set and would probably cost less then $5. to manufacture with quantity. Long bed, short bed, Blazer rear floors could be an interesting product as once the tooling is made for the long bed, the short and blazer floor could be a simple cut down with minimal tooling. The basic pattern would allow for solution for all three. Just providing the rear 6" would also be a great seller as this is the most common "first area" to rust out due to the dirt pocket created by the wrap down of the floor rib pattern. Finally a tooling for Shoulder belts using full size webbing would not only be extremely popular, but you would be doing a service for everyone who drives one of these trucks---and will probably save a life or two in the process!!! If I can help in any way, just let me know~~~`Huck |

Re: What parts aren't out there?
Molded speaker kick panels that don't look cheesy and FIT. Also, some kind of speaker/insulated enclosure the goes from the floor to the window bottom and from door to door that can be installed in trucks that have the fuel tank removed.

Re: What parts aren't out there?
Another vote for LWB bedsides. Definitely understand the shipping challenges...but heck, I'd pay some additional cash for a wooden crate with the bedsides carefully mounted. I've been surprised that the new fenders I bought were just basically stuffed in a (reasonably heavy) cardboard box!

Re: What parts aren't out there?
How about the stupid VIN tag rivets. THis has got to be the biggest rip off of all time---getting $20-30. a pair!!!!!!!!!!!!! You could set up a stamping press with normal rivits and stamp into them the pattern----can't cost more then a few dollars for a die modified for this---hell I may just do this myself!!!

I don't believe the trim piece that goes across the lip of the hood on the 68's is reproduced.

Re: What parts aren't out there?
A lot of good ideas & some too wild to fly!
Here's another vote for the RH corner/tray on core supports. The small area that the battery eats up. A lot of guys don't want to buy a new rad spt for their daily drivers, when they just need a small piece...same for front of inner fender. |

YES! Just like the pie cut projects you see. A "stock" version and a cowl version.

Re: What parts aren't out there?
If someone can send a picture of the inner fender with the area you'd like to see made as a seperate piece we can easily make that from the existing tool.
Here's a picture to start with: |

Re: What parts aren't out there?
A little crude, but this piece on a PS inner fender and the corresponding tray area on the core support.

Re: What parts aren't out there?
This is also the "awesome" fit of the aftermarket speaker kick panels. It's actually worse than it looks. It overlaps the vent as much as 3/4" in some areas.
One that fits would be a ![]()

Re: What parts aren't out there?
i am not real up on all the parts that are available for our trucks. but i think that a "filled" cowl replacement part would be a money maker. i am not running wiper blades & motor on my truck & i would love to just buy a replacement panel that does not have the long vent openings in it. especially for those of us who don't know how to weld. i think that to have a mass produce part would be cheaper then getting a body shop (fabricator) to do the piece, atleast from the consumer end. kinda just like we get for our bed sides or rocker panels i guess....
anyways, just a thought..... |
