OK, I am SICK of this darn thing breaking....SO I am going to invest in a one piece drive shaft. I know the measurement is from the tailshaft seal to the center line of the pinion yolk. What measurement have you guys come up with when you did yours? Thanks in advance.

being a SWB, there is no real reason to stick witha 2 piece.
The industry standard on figuring the drive shaft length, install the yoke in the tranny, and slide it 1/2 way in. Then, with the truck sitting on all 4 tires (or all 4 jack stands set at even height and loading the suspention) measure from center of U-joint hole to center of U-joint hole.
Then call your local drive shaft shop, and make sure they aren't retarded and want you to do it some other way. If they do want some other method... I'd look for a new driveline shop.

Slip yolks are not all the same, so I will toss this out there......If you slide the yolk in the trans till it bottoms,mark it, then pull it back 3/4" minimum to 1" maximum, you should be in the proper spot to do your measuring. What you are looking for is that "tween" 3/4 & 1" for slip clearance.......if you are too close, you can snub the trans on a hard bump in the road.....too far out, & you will wear out the rear bushing in the trans,& cause yourself tranny problems & driveline vibes.

Thanks for the link.... now, did you use the telescoping rear drive shaft as recommended, or just the center support bearing? How's it holding up?

Man I can't imagine a 2 piece drive shaft on a shorty frame!!! Ditch that and put in a 1 piece.

I have a 2 peice drive shaft on my shorty and she performs just fine .... even when i'm getting on it. I will take some pics for you. My carrier bearing looks similar to the one you have posted up top.

Make sure you get the carrier bearing installed the right way. I had a shop install one for me. They put on backwards twice, it went bad in about 2 weeks both x's.
One pc. w/ slip shaft is more in line if you have a sealed trans, like 4x4 transfer case.
Since you've got a slip trans yoke anywho, no need for slip shaft if you go 1 pc route. If you stay w/ 2 pc you need some way for the rear shaft to have some back/forth movement, then slip shaft is need on rearmost shaft. Since the carrier bearing to trans distance doesn't change w/ suspension movement.

How often do those go out? I have a 3/4 ton longbed, and mine was whining, and I just replaced it - is that gonna be a constant problem?

I cant even remember how many times I broke and welded the carrier bearing. I upgraded to a 700R-4 trans and a 1 piece driveshaft. The 700R-4 is longer than the original trannys, allowing 1 piece driveshafts in long beds. Best thing I ever did! Check out http://www.thrashdriveshaft.com/

I don't have the slip shaft, but I haven't had any problems since putting those in. Before that I couldn't keep a carrier in my truck.
