Power steering leak?
I can't really tell where this is leaking, since it's obviously done this for some time, and it's pretty much caked up...But, if I fill it up, I'll have ps for less than a week before it's gone again. What's the likely problem area? Other than faulty hose, what else could cause this. I've quit adding fluid since it makes such a mess. Guess i need to break out the Gunk or something.

Re: Power steering leak?
if its leaking from the box and its on eather line where the threads are some times the tube gets a bure in it or it gets bent inside where it gets crushed down on it has a little by pass take some medeum string and rap it around the tube that the line gose into the steering box that should fix it for you only need to have it go arounfg 1 time and a little extra if its leaking from the pump replace the pump and get a pully puller or take the pump to a local shop so they can take on and off your pully and tade in your old one and buy a rebuild and change both of your lines you can go throw
www.lmctruck.com or www.truckandcarshop.com and they can sell you the lines most auto parts wont sell you the correct lines or fitting for your truck best to buy them thew these guys |

Re: Power steering leak?
I'll have to look closer, but I think one of the hoses may be rubbing on the frame. Someone has added it, so it may not be set up right.

Re: Power steering leak?
does running it without fluid hurt it?? i know thats a dumb one but hey why not..haha..and also would taking the belt off hurt the ps pump??? just a couple thoughts i had
but goodluck on finding your leak, and maybe clean it all off as best you can and since it goes so quick you should be able to see the leak after its cleaned while it sits and idles

Re: Power steering leak?
I have seen 2 that were actually rusted through on the backside near the exhaust.

Re: Power steering leak?
you have probably severely shortened the life of your pump by letting it spin with no fluid inside of it.if its leaking that badly there has to be a massive wet fluid spot aside from the caked on stuff. first step just clean everything up then look for where it comes gushing out after the gunk that was partially clogging part of the leak is gone

Re: Power steering leak?
It actually has some fluid, but not much. It will still register on the stick...What do you all suggest cleaning this mess off with. Everything is caked under there, especially on that side. Thanks for all the responses.

Re: Power steering leak?
Scrape off the heavy stuff, hit it with some no heat Easy-Off and pressure wash.
