Re: sectioned crossmember pics

With a 1-3/8" section, do you still have to clearance the steering shaft?

Re: sectioned crossmember pics

Mine was done by my friend who is a welder/fab guy. He has done a few of these before so i knew it would be done very well. I believe it took him about 7 - 8 hrs total. It is not installed yet. Still sitting in my backyard with a foot of snow on it lol. I'm just waiting to buy some headers and a few other goodies before i pull the motor to install it. I have checked and i am sure that i will have to raise the steering shaft a lil to clear.

Yes, you will need u-joints to raise the steering shaft.

The rest of my steering wouldn't work w/a 1 3/8 section..... it was too much. I would have had to remove 1/3 of the u-bolt (& the nut) that secures the lower a-arms (the side that's inboard).

Instead, I shimmed the c.member up 1/4" (for 1 1/8" total notch) & have about 1/8" clearance on the inner u-bolt/nut. This was after alot of grinding/clearancing.

Re: sectioned crossmember pics

I wish there was one concise, detailed write up on this mod instead of having to go through that monster thread with over 600 posts. Is there one that I am missing?

you can safely go 1- 1 1/8 inches without hitting the drag link and **** on the LCA u bolts...me and my bro went 1.25 on his truck...but raised all the steering components .5 inches...

my bad guys....pm me if you need to know something cause I dont visit here too often...

cut sides of the frame where the box and idler arm bolted on and raised those pieces of the frame up. Then made fillers.

ok gotcha. Why not just drill new holes so you don't have to cut the frame and add filler pieces?
