Anyone running a BB with overdrive in a AD truck

Am wondering if in order to place a big block and overdrive tranny in a 47-55 chevy truck that one has to modify the firewall and floor.
I would like to install a Buick 455 with overdrive in my 49 but dont want to install a *****in firewall and floor in case I decide to go back to stock.
Will they fit with that stock firewall and floor? If it makes a difference Ill probably end up using the dakota front end from industrial.
Thanks...Eric

Re: Anyone running a BB with overdrive in a AD truck

At a minimum, you'll have to move the firewall back a little bit and have to open up the area around the transmission bellhousing where the toe boards meet the firewall. If you want the retain the factory look, you could buy a repro firewall/toeboard assembly and install it a few inches back from the stock location, but after it's all said and done, you'll have a ton of work into it, and you'll probably want to weld up about 75% of the unused holes that the factory had. The *****in' and Direct Sheetmetal firewalls are spendy, but they fit really nice and will give you the room you need.

In my opinion, once you stab the throttle and feel what that 455 puts out, you'll forget all about going back to stock. Just make sure you upgrade the brakes and suspension while you're at it.

Thanks for the input. The only reason I have thought about going stock or atleast "updated stock" is because the truck the has been the family since 48, theres alot of memories.
But yet I want to drive and enjoy the truck. Thanks guys...Eric
