Brake lights

So my brake lights don't work, but my turn signals do. There's power going in and out of my brake light switch. The schematic in the Haynes manual shows the wire going to what looks like the steering column/hazard assembly. Has anyone had to fix it there?

Re: Brake lights

Nah, both turn signals and running lights work in back... plus the turn signals use the same wires as brake lights, that's why I figure the problem's in the column somewhere

Re: Brake lights

It's a longshot... I had a similar problem, although not on a similar vehicle.... On my Cutlass, voltage to my brake lights travelled through the multi-function switch inside the column. The switch was worn and seperating to a point where the contacts wouldn't touch.

If these trucks have a similar design, the problem will be obvious upon visual inspection of the switch.

Re: Brake lights

I'd bet the steering columns and wiring inside are pretty similar if the Cutlass was an older model... I'm going to check inside the column Tuesday after work so we'll see. I'm assuming the multifunction switch is the turn/hazard etc in one?

Re: Brake lights

Checked it out last night, got the steering column apart down to the signal switch...and then I found it was a bad connection at the bottom of the sterring column. Oh well, at least they work now!
