earl's stainless brake lines...don't fit.:(

I bought the Earl's stainless braided brake line kit awhile back, have just now had time to install them.
I bought some new calipers and painted them, old ones were original and did not feel like cleaning them.
anyway, paint is all dry, and I'm getting out my wrenches to take the old lines off and new ones on, I decide to go ahead and install the caliper end of the hose first, and they don't fit. The square end is too big for the caliper, will not go far enough for bolt to screw in.

When the brass/aluminum washer is installed it doesn't raise the line up to clear that lip ?

Re: earl's stainless brake lines...don't fit.:(

the calipers are correct, the hose kit says for 81-87 c10 4X2 2wd gas truck
No, with the crush washer in the lip is just too high around the edge would need a mega huge washer.
Gonna send them back to summit, and buy some from inlinetube.com
Sent them an email today, hopefully their kit is correct.
earl's part# is 28A240ERL just an FYI

Re: earl's stainless brake lines...don't fit.:(

called inlinetube.com today the sales guy "Larry" was a total a$$hat about any question I had about the brake hoses they sell, so I'm not buying anything from them.
Who else sells the correct hoses besides lmc?
I'm open for suggestions.

You're going through too much trouble - if it were me I'd have just grinded down the calipers where they interfere with the blocks, it won't compromise safety (if done right it will actually be a better fit), and should you need to return the calipers for a core no one would ever notice.

Re: earl's stainless brake lines...don't fit.:(

thats weird man.

i went the slightly cheaper route and bought the russell brand hoses. the quality is still great and the fittings are rounded, not a big block like that...

grind them and install them. I have never bought wheel cylinders that I did not have to radius around the top to mount in the backing plate. Still though, I'm sure you spent a chunk of change on those braided POS's and they should fit without modifying.

Re: earl's stainless brake lines...don't fit.:(

Maybe those lines are more of a universal fit?

What did Earls say about it?

Too bad about your experience with inline, they were very helpful to me regarding my brakeline setup

such is life when dealing with aftermarket parts.

I learned a long time ago that 95% of the time, bolt-ons aren't.

Re: earl's stainless brake lines...don't fit.:(

I learned (especially with my truck), bolt on = modify for your application

heres a good recipe:

2 pts. swearing
3 pts. bloody knuckles
1 pt. project at hand
1 dremel kit for a lil added flavor

mix well, shake, beat, and knead if needed...
