Re: Motor mounts and headers
I'm not sure how much variation there is out there, but I yanked a 230L6 from a 64 C10 and put in a 350 from a 71 GMC camper special in. The 350 bolted right up to same motor mounts, same bell housing (3-speed). Attachement for clutch linkage was in right place. I was amazed how simple it was to do the swap.
I'm told the 230 and 250 have same mounts as sbc 350, but 292 passenger side mount is different, further forward than the others. You would only need to replace the mount on this side to do the swap.
I also used the same headers (tube headers, not oem cast iron) from the 71 GMC. I had to move a lever on the clutch linkage, I think the piece is called a bell-crank. Had to move one of the arms closer to the block. Other than that, the headers cleared the frame, motor mounts, etc. I don't know the origin of the headers.
