Only suggestion I have is clean up the firewall while you have easy access. Good luck!

Thumbs up Re: started sorta resto job

with 79 it will be tough to remove that black tar stuff but it's well worth the effort cuz it's such an eye sore.

Your not wasting any time diving into this thing are you?

Good job it looks good so far.

Re: started sorta resto job

for the fire wall if you just want to freshin it up and not have to worry about the tar. I used so duralast bed liner paint it a rubber base that comes out very nicely. Its a little ruff tectured but no enough to cut mot just bumpyish smooth if that makes sents.

Anyway heres a picture after i did mine using only the bed liner paint to do the frame and firewall. that brown spot in the frame is dirt were i was standing to do the engine work.

I think they look good in that color. It probably burned off soon after starting, though...

I could never do what you (and others) are doing, junktruck. I tend to lose motivation after a while, and would probably never get it back together.

Re: started sorta resto job

yes the orange burned of trying to find a way to make it stay on. Havent found the right combo yet.

Also the paint was ceramic paint rated at 500 degrees that says alot on how hot the engines exgaust gets.

Re: started sorta resto job

well the truck keeps me from losing my mind. in the profession that i'm in there's a lot of long hours, so when i do get a break like i been having you gotta get as much done as possible. i got a 305 pumping out 300 hp, th350, headers, 2 edelbrock intake manifolds, full exhaust, 750 q-jet, starter, hei distributor, and a tq conv. for 500 bucks yesterday, so that should help the truck move down the road until i build a bigger engine. i'm gonna drop that 305 in it probably in a week or two.

later,

junk

Re: started sorta resto job

Good progress. Looks good so far. I gotta agree the only thing I would do is clean up the firewall if you want cause you got the access to it right now. I like the orange headers too, LOL.

Re: started sorta resto job

oh i'm definitely cleaning the firewall while i have the chance. today i ran across a 1983 longbed 4x4 scottsdale. it's got a carb operated 98 vortec 350, with a burnt tranny, headers, dual tanks, pwr windows(that work), and a 12 bolt rearend. for the high price of 500 bucks. the guy said i can't get it to even turn over. so i tow strapped it home, put a battery in it and it ran for about a min, then the altenator belt broke, changed it and now it will just sit there and turn over but won't fire. but for 500 bucks, who cares if it won't idle. all i want is the dual tanks, and 12 bolt rear end. the rest of the truck i'm probably gonna sell or part out. here's a few floor pan pictures that i did today.

later, junk
