where does this go?

I am trying to assemble a Mar-K bed for a 58 SB stepside and I can't find the placement of the third cross sill. It is supposed to provide clearance under the sill and outboard from the frame, but clearance for what? I'm sure the answer is simple but then so am I. Thanks in advance for the help. Howard

Re: where does this go?

Howard-
You might want to try looking at a factory assembly manual for your '58. It will have a detailed diagram for the bed assembly, and it should have the info you need. Maybe someone here with the ability to scan and post drawings can help you out.

Howard63:

Your third cross sill goes in the third bed to frame bolt position, 53-3/4 back from the front panel, and that particular shape cross sill with the clearance is only used on short bed trucks. The assembly manual does show a drawing of that cross sill but not what it is clearance for. Hopefully another member can enlighten us both on why the extra clearance is needed in that spot.
