Cigarette lighter removal?
Stupid question for the group - before I tear into it with a big screwdriver...
How does one go about gracefully removing the cigarette lighter in these trucks? Without prying on things I can't see what is holding it in. Thanks |

Re: Cigarette lighter removal?
On all the cigarette lighter removals I've done there's usually an outer casing on the back. This outer casing essentially sandwiches the cigarette lighter housing to the dash. Sometimes they're rusted on pretty good but most times I've been able to get them off by hand. Long story short: reach behind the dash and unscrew this outer casing. The rest should fall out of the dash.
PS: make sure you unplug the power wire. Better yet, before you do that make sure you disconnect the battery, unless you want a shower of sparks |

reach up behind, disconnect the wires, and grab the housing and un screw it.
i usually stick my thumb in the hole to hold the inner piece while i unscrew it.

Re: Cigarette lighter removal?
Under the dash, behind the lighter, there is a sleeve that acts like a nut. Very thin tin-like nut about an inch long. Unscrew it from the back and pull the lighter out from the front. The beizel around the lighter will come off after you pull the lighter.

Re: Cigarette lighter removal?
I guess I will be ripping mine out because I have tried to unscrew it and it just spins without giving up

I've found in that situation, if you use channel locks to compress it a little bit (mutch like crimping a wire), you can engage the threads enough to unscrew it... good luck
