They do sell new ones for $650-ish. My mom may be getting one. What's left of her OEM one is rough, but you could paint it. If they get a new one and are interested in selling it, I'll let you know.

Re: drug home a new project!

Looks like a fun project. My experience with 235 ( I have 5 of them ) is if they turn over real easy by hand. More than likely the lifters are not pumped up and the valves are not opening. If that's the case and it's not the pistons and rings. She may start right up, if not. Then all you may need to get her started is a clean oil pan and screen so oil pressure can pump up the lifters and let the valves open and close properly.
Most didn't come with oil filters and sludge builds up over the years, even if they changed the oil. It usually stops up the oil pump screen. Low oil pressure no compression. Also this will some times burn the crank and you can't get good oil pressure to get those valves working with burnt bearings on the cam or crank.

Re: drug home a new project!

You have a 54, I'm not sure but I don't think it has an oil pump. ??? If it doesn't it has a splash system. So good crank and cam bearings or even more important.

Re: drug home a new project!

Another thing if she don't start right up is to pull the dist. out and use a drill with a long cut off straight slot screw driver end on it to pump up oil pressure. Of course you checked to see if you have fuel and fire first.

Re: drug home a new project!

the dizzy will be pulled because i have a test HEI that i have just for starting 235's. they need to be reprimed after they sit and why mess with a bunch of old stuff roll in some fresh plugs and HEI saves lots of time.
