So I got air tools for the first time, and I attach a socket to the 1/2" impact wrench. Now the socket won't come off. There was a little c-ring thing on the tip, right after the square part that the socket fit onto. It was tough to get the socket over the c-ring. Now it won't go past it to come off. Was the c-ring supposed to be an o-ring and not loose? What else could cause this? I have no other to compare it to right now.

If it's just the ring your gonna have to bump the socket with something (another socket etc). If you're using an impact socket and your impact has the pin look on the wrench end of the socket for a hole, insert a small screwdriver or something similar to push the pin out.

ive had that problem with new ones to but it broke in after some use and theyre fine now

that clip is on there to keep the socket from coming off just take a screwdriver and pry the socket off. it should be snug and will probably loosen up with time and use.

The ONLY problem with HF impact sockets is they're a little tight to start with, until they get some wear on them. Pull the nut (or bolt) ALMOST all the way off, pull the socket off then finish loosening the nut or bolt.

And a little tip for you (From someone who has inherited Air Tools older than our trucks that are still running great)

DONT FORGET TO OIL THEM AFTER EVERY USE.

If they are going into longterm storage (year or more), oil the hell out of them.

I rarely fire up my 1 In impact, which is about 50 years old, but it still runs like new.. Have fun.

ive heard dont use chrome from sources other than sears. *shrug* i always assumed it was a safety issue due to composition materials and heat treatment used to make the socket?

If it's Craftsman and it breaks...they replace it right?

They don't have to know that I had a three foot cheater pipe on that breaker bar.

I heard that the chrome can shatter? not sure if thats right, and I have used them in the past, but bought some impact sockets as well.. just to be safe..

the thing with chrome sockets is if they crack the chrome will flake off and if you have your hand on the socket it'll cut up your hand really bad, and a note warrantys are void if you use on impact, trust me
