Where would you join frames together?
Hi I need some opinions. The frame on the 64 that I bought is rotten on both rails right were the coils mount to the frame, the coil brackets are gone and the frame has holes right through. By the way its a short box. I found a long box frame same year in good condition, I am trying to figure out the best place to cut both frames and rejoin them. Should I do it just as the frame starts going up at the back in front of the coils by the cab mount, or should i cut in front of or behind the driveshaft crossmember loop? Is this a safe alteration? If it was butt welded together without plating it would it be safe or should I box or put a plate on the inside where the welt joint is? Need advice.
Thanks Ang |

Re: Where would you join frames together?
Hi Mike
I can't believe my dumb luck I brought my frame home today and its actually a short box frame. I went to see it on monday the guy I bought it off said it was along box frame i took his word for it thinking i could shorten it. I should have brought measurements, but the frame was solid so I bought It. After I got it home and got my old frame beside it I realized that I lucked out. Its in great shape and I don't have to cut It. I really enjoyed the link to the frame Mike... man did that guy do a Fantastic job on shortening his frame that was solid workmanship. Thanks again for the link Mike. |

They are doing a lwb to swb conversion on Trucks. Here is a link to their site:
http://www.powerblocktv.com/sites/trucks/ The method is tried and true and the results are spectacular. |
