Hello 60-66 folks, check out this pile!

I guess it was inevitable to become an owner of a truck of this generation. This ol beater was given to me today, and I did drive it home! Dang that was fun! It's an all out farm truck, with no straight metal, electrics are a mess. The transfer case or maybe the linkage was frozen up in neutral and kicking the shifter is the only way I got it in 2 hi.
I have already been told to scrap it from a couple of guys, but I dont want to, dammit. I dig them skinny tires and have a liking for 3/4 tons. It is titled as a 62 Chevy and the cab indicates so, but since it has the v-6, GMC tailgate and grill, I think thats enuff to call it a GMC!!! That engine is the big plus! it idles smooth and steady with no smoke.

Yah, I get emotionally attached to trucks and it's happening again! Here is the engine and whats left of the interior.

70gmcjimmy:

The V6, actually Y6, was factory for the '60-'66 GMC trucks. Nice rig.

Hi Tony, as a 4 year old kid, just before my folks split up, pa bought a 1960 GMC Suburban brand new. The thing I remember the most was the emblem with a big "V" with a 6 inside of it. This is a Chevy that someone halfways switched to a GMC. It is obvious that this old beater doesnt have the original engine as there is a homemade front engine mount made out of angle iron. There are plates bolted to the sides of the block that are not mounted to anything. I did not know that Y-6 was the proper term for that style of engine. Thanks!

Hello David, Definitely not trying to sell anything here, but I dont want the seats. I may want the sliders tho, so the rest of the seat would not be of much use. Shipping would be a killer on them if I decided not to part out those seats wouldn't it? The uphostery is shot on them. They say "Eddie Bauer" on the headrest, so I assume that they are out of some kind of F@%d Exploder or sumethin. If they were to be for sale in the future I will PM you.

Thanks for the responses!---DAC

Hey Baddawg, You must have posted as I was. Cool Chevy there!! Looks like ya must drive it quite a lot. Aint no weeds under it! Were are you at? We have good friends in Gillette and Wright areas. Actually most of the folks we know in eastern WY moved over there to make big bucks during the high oil and coal prices.

Thanks for the response!---DAC

Re: Hello 60-66 folks, check out this pile!

very nice truck. i love the 3/4 ton's but i wasent lucky enough to get one. great start too, i drove my 62 home but barely, and my 66 had to be pulled home. little did the guy that sold me the 66 know, the engine runs really good, if i would have spent a little time out there with the truck i could have driven it home, that is if i wanted to drag my feet to stop(had no brakes whatsoever). good luck!!!!
thanks,
John

Re: Hello 60-66 folks, check out this pile!

nice find! my 60 is in similar shape. the guy(s) who started hotrodding this truck put the body on a mid 70's 2wd blazer frame and cut out all the bed guts and welded the tailgate shut when they bobtail'd it. not to mention all the wiring was all fubar'd

Jeff Olson is the friend that moved to Wright around a year ago. That is a great lookin frame-off so far! It's cool that you are keepin the I-6! I really don't know what I'm gonna do with this truck yet, but kickin around the idea of leavin it beat up and just fix things like body mounts, wiring, brakes, body parts about to fall off etc, so it can be a reliable driver. I need to get my 70 done first.

That is a sweet truck in your avatar! I am real impressed with the way that 305 runs. Its so smooth you cant feel it idle. Don't blame you for the self ass kickin over that GMC. Was a cool truck I'm sure.

I do wish the original seat was in it, but you can wish in one hand and s%$t in the other---Well you know. I have a junk '73 Chevy 3/4 ton sittin at work. I wonder if there might be a chance that seat could be made to fit???

ALL of you folks, thanks for the compliments!! I will try to visit here more often.
