Frame: what would you do if starting over?
I think I'm finally going to get my parts truck home this weekend and pull it apart. I'm planning to start with the frame; I'll have it blasted and then start putting it back together.
This will be mostly a daily driver, but I'm interested in the things that folks would do if they were starting from scratch today knowing what they know. Drop crossmember? Welding in supports, etc. Open to all suggestions with a special emphasis on stuff that if I don't do it now it'll be a REAL pain to do later. |

Just off the top of my head,ECE trailing arm X-member,ECE transmission X-member, boxed and welded C-notch,ECE shock relocation brackets, reinforcement strips on trailing arms, remove small X-member behind rear axle, ECE rear X-member, boxing plate for electric fuel pump and filter, rear bag mount holes, front X-memberchange to tubular(just 'cuz?)and get away from black paint, I am liking the higher visibility of other peoples lighter colored frames. I know I wouldn't advance to the next stage until I had done these things, cause if I don't have enough time and forethought to do it when it's easy, I won't have the motivation to do it later or redo it. Take your time in the planning stage, it's the best time you'll spend!

Would have started with por-15 and should have filled in all the holes when the cab and bed were off.

I would blast the frame and then build it.Weld any holes that weren't going to be used.Install a dropmember(not that I like them as low as some but...).C-notch but not so much the body had to be cut.Custom crossmember with exhaust openings.Determine the overall color scheme and have the frame powdercoated.Have the suspension components powder coated in a contrasting color(colors).Build the truck over and over in your head and take notes.Try to think of anything and everything you want, may want later or someone you sell to might want.I know it sounds like a bit overkill for a DD but it seems it would be easier to keep looking good this way and any time you want to step it up....
Just some thoughts I wish I could swing.
