Parking Brake Cable help...
Does anyone know how much the rear cables should travel before the parking brake shoe makes contact with the drum?
My passenger side only travels about an 1/8" while my drivers side rear cable moves about an inch and a half. When pulling on the cable by hand I can barely move the passenger side, too. The drivers side is much easier. Does this mean the cable is seized, or could it be an adjustment/ spring return issue. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. It's a 71 K20 with the big Eaton. |

Re: Parking Brake Cable help...
You should get equal travel from both sides. The sheathed cable on the pass. side is probably seized or very close to it. Try shooting the cable with some penetrating oil and working the cable. You may be able to brake it loose, that will make it easier to change. This is a fair size job, quite alot to pulling the drums.

You can get new sheathed cables from NAPA (maybe others also) for under $20 each. I'd say just replace them w/new one and forget about the old ones.

Re: Parking Brake Cable help...
First things first-------adjust the shoes. There is no really set of travel for a cable. It will vary depending on adjustment and length of the arm--etc..
