Re: steering column tear down?
This shows you how to take it apart, but not how to replace the switch:

Re: steering column tear down?
it easy really but to save u time cut the wires that go to the switch that run up the column it save youe about 5-10 min. instead of wigling it way out.

Re: steering column tear down?
I would get a wire terminal tool and take apart the wires from the connector. Tape some fishing line or heavy string to the bottom. So when you pull the turn signal switch out it pulls the string with it. That will help you get the wires back to the bottom. With the new turn signal switch disconnect the wires from the connector. Use the string to help feed the wires back down. Hook the wires back into the connector.
Tool looks like this its pretty handy for stuff like that.

Re: steering column tear down?
it took me all of 5 minutes to get the old wires/harness up through the column...
i was needing to replace the ignition lock switch(mine was eating keys) and the wiper switch. what i also need now is the housing for everything(plastic black piece that holds everything in it). mostly the smaller piece but i would take both. think a dealership would have one? |

Re: steering column tear down?
well the main housing is alright, i actually need the little housing piece that goes over the tilt lever....
no time to go to the junk yard or a dealership cause of my work schedule this is the only thing holding me back from getting the column back together! |

Re: steering column tear down?
sorry didnt get a chance i got home and started working more around house and get some numbers made up. then my bro came in and said his and my buddy died today by a heart attack he was 40. he didnt take care of him self so it not a big surprise. I feel bad hes gone i did like seeing him drive that 3 wheel with his dog on the gas tank.

the lever i'm looking for is an 86ish (that style anyway) intermittent wiper, non-cruise control chrome lever.... black will work, cruise will work, my factory one has the chrome peeling and it looks like crap. no rush on it man, thanks a lot for even looking |

Re: steering column tear down?
so you need the non cruise with chrome. i wish i still had my 86 c10 it had that and i junked it casue i saw to purpose. but i might have saved the column i did everything else. either that or my buddy has it and hes not going to use it so he would be happy to give it up.
