restorations
welp the day has come when im thinking of doing my own business... restoring cars/trucks... and lots of people have projects, that get on the back burner, that want done.... this is a feeler to see if there are any serious instrested people... i can do a extream frame off, or modern engine/ drive train swaps, cars /truck, etc....
LMK what ya got and what you want....  ?????

I think this is a great idea. One thing that might help is to have a way of getting trucks down your way. I live up in Ohio so it would not be feasible to drive down your way....but having it trailered would be a possiblity. There may be trucks close by that are not drive-able but if it could be hauled to your business then you could then get to work on it. I am hoping to start the restoration of my truck this fall but I am going to do it in stages. Engine, suspension, brakes, and ac. Then I will do the interior and last the body. (I am not doing the restoration because I am mechanically challanged) Good Luck. Wishing you the best!!

I've considered this myself, but going in to business for yourself can be a scary thing. Good luck, hopefully I won't be too far behind you.

I hope to eventually get there as I get closer to retirement. Just focusing on gathering parts and working on my own right now. Would be interested in helping from the parts side and the transportation side - as far as bringing the northern trucks down to you.
Just signed up for a welding class at the local votech - so me be a welder soon. Then I can do my own rockers, cab corners, etc. And repair my collection of fenders and beds. Good luck.

ive worked at dealerships and resto/ classic repair shops... and have found in my area there is a very limited amount of people that can afford and are willing to pay top dollar to have thier classics reapired/ restored. im from a fairly small town, and im sure the bigger citys have a much higer demand for this type of work. it seems like lots of people think since its for an older car its so easy to work on and they arent willing to pay as much.
just my personal opinion, and it would be awesome to own your own business and restore classics, you just need to make sure theres a market or it |

I'm saving now see you in a couple of years
I would so it on the side with a little advertising and word of mouth and when you can't keep up anymore you will know it's time. Only you know if you are financially capable at this time to go it alone. You are young and intelligent and do great work. If you find the right market you will be busier than you can handle. i would like to do this as well but how many guys have a grand a week plus the money for parts and suplys. i don't want to use my shop to store someone elses half finished project till he gets more money

Good luck with it. Most people will sign up quickly until they see the shop rate. At 45-55 an hour that scares the average Joe off pretty quickly.

I have had estimates on my truck run between $5500 and $20K. Quite a variation. The low estimate is from a production shop with Hispanic labor. Beautiful paintjobs and nice folks. That was 3 years ago, so it will be more, now. The high end estimate if from a shop that builds hot rods.

Good Luck....I did this on the side for over 10 years. I kept my day job to pay the bills because of the rent on the shop and never knowing when the customers where going to pay. I would suggest getting a shop in Greenville (cheaper rent) and do side work until you get a good feel for whats out there. By looking at your work you should have no trouble getting work lined up.
