rear lugs when running rear discs ....
what are you guys running for rear lug BOLTS after you install rear disc brakes?
i am finding that the additional approx 1/4" thickness of the rotor takes up valuable thread and that even with a steel rally wheel, the lug nuts will only spin on about 2-3 threads ... not even allowing the end of the lug bolt to sit flush with the face of the lug nut. i have searched and searched for longer lugs (locally and on the 'Net) and can find STOCK thread and shoulder dia lug bolts... I can find LONGER lugs, but not with the same size shoulder that passes thru the axle flange. I would like to have something at least 3/4" longer, but can't find them in stock size threads or shoulders. Advice? I have even had the thought of removing the axles, drilling and tapping the axle flange and then using Grade 5 bolts with Loc Tite as lugs ... any advice on where to find "stock" style lugs but longer? pros and cons on using Grade 5 bolts? What are all the guys running rear discs using? Last edited by Shane; 08-06-2007 at 10:03 PM. |

Re: rear lugs when running rear discs ....
You're looking for studs, not lug nuts, right? Have you tried ARP? That's the first place I would try.

Re: rear lugs when running rear discs ....
I don't have rear discs (yet), but I did have to swap the studs on my original axles years ago & was having the same problem. I wound up using long studs from Moroso & then cut them down to the length I needed.
Not as visually appealing, but it got the job done.

Re: rear lugs when running rear discs ....
I don't think I'd bolt my wheels on with them, especially when grade8 is readily available in the same sizes for not much more money. Even then, I think I would prfer a stud. Like these guys said- Moroso or ARP.

Re: rear lugs when running rear discs ....
Do not use grade 5 bolts, wheel studs are hardened. I got my studs from Moser when I bought new axles. you should be able to get studs from Napa.

I have a set of the Moroso studs in the blister pack, but the shoulder diameter is gonna require that I drill the axle flange ... and that's what I am trying to get away from. If I go thru all that trouble I am just gonna drill and tap for a bolt. |

Re: rear lugs when running rear discs ....
Napa can't get stock studs in longer length, at least my local Napa can't ... been there, done that.

Re: rear lugs when running rear discs ....
Go to the Moroso web site and look under brake wheel equipment and choose the stud that will work might have to cut off to size.
