Re: finally starting on my 66 fleetside...

Thats cool......
Keep on truckin'

My grandma gave the original "farm truck" ('65 chev) to her son and he immediately converted it to dollars by selling it (for $2000 or some crap).
If I had gotten it I would have done the resto on it, kept it and driven it.

I am pretty happy with the rig I have now ('66 chev pickup), but nothing beats a good history and rebuild.

Best-

I think history really adds to something like that... At least when my son grows up he will have history with my truck seeing I have had it since before he was born.. The first picture was the first car show I brought him too.. he was 6 months old and the 2nd he always wanted to drive and he was 11 months then.. So I am starting history with him here...

Re: finally starting on my 66 fleetside...

Have a 65 fleetside that I purchased while workin' a horse ranch in Oregon and believe me the rust on your 66 is kids stuff ta' what I had to go through (remember "patience is a virtue" )!! Had ta' purchase a 64 to part off of. A comicable note is, yah' see people don't realize that the capital of OR., is not Salem, but "RUST" (no disrespect to any Oregonian's )! Good luck in your endeavore.

Re: finally starting on my 66 fleetside...

hey guys, little update, worked on the truck last night with dad (wich is always fun) and starting taking more of the front end off, man do these trucks have bolts every 5" or is it just me? i mean really...this thing was put together like a tank wich is a good thing. But were still tearing it down and finding rust here and there, but still have to stay positive and just smile and fix it and know that grandpa is laughing at us looking down ....i will try to get some more pics of progress and the ones mentioned above where we actually pulled it out of the barn...just been crazy getting ready for baby girl to be here soon....so have plent of "wife honeydoos" to do.

Re: finally starting on my 66 fleetside...

hey guys, back from the dead! Been a crazy year so far, my wife had our first child in March a baby Girl, so needless to say we haven't done much to the old truck. But the past couple of weeks my dad has retired from Frito Lay for 34 years and he has spent some time on the old truck...here are a few updated pics, it should go to sandblast next week, in the meantime we will put the 283 together and have it ready to go back in when it gets back...

Re: finally starting on my 66 fleetside...

really not to bad considering we can buy most things new we need to replace any rust...the frame is good just surface rust, we are going to put a automatic in it(agains my judgement) so mom can drive it, wich it was her dads truck so cant really argue with her on that one....i hope with dad retiring that the project will really start moving now, i think once it gets back from sandblast and primer its all down hill from there.
